*Iran Blames Saudi Arabia for Deadly Attacks in Tehran
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards say Saudi Arabia was behind twin attacks in Tehran on Wednesday that killed at least 12 people and injured 43, a statement published by the Guards said. “This terrorist attack happened only a week after the meeting between the US president (Donald Trump) and the (Saudi) backward leaders who support terrorists. The fact that Islamic State has claimed responsibility proves that they were involved in the brutal attack,” said the statement, published by Iranian media. The attacks were the first claimed by the hardline Sunni Muslim militant group in tightly controlled Shi’ite Muslim Iran.
*ISIS Claims Attack on Khomeini’s Tomb, Iran’s Parliament
Gunmen opened fire inside Iran’s parliament building Wednesday as a near-simultaneous suicide bomb reportedly detonated at Ayatollah Khomeini’s
mausoleum—a shrine to the man who launched the Islamic Revolution in 1979. At least 12 people have died and 42 more were wounded in the twin attacks, according to state media. A social-media account affiliated with ISIS declared responsibility for the attacks—the first major assault claimed by the hardline Sunni Muslim terror group inside Shiite Muslim-majority Iran. Gunmen reportedly stormed the parliament building; lawmakers were put on lockdown in the parliament’s hall, according to the near-official Tasnim news agency. The assailants were reportedly armed with AK-47s and pistols. More than two and a half hours into the assault, an explosion went off on the fifth floor of the parliament, Tasnim reported. Officials at parliament declared the situation under control shortly after noon
local time, with Iranian media reporting four gunmen have been shot dead by police.
*Eric Trump: Democrats Are ‘Not Even People’
President Trump’s son Eric went on a tirade against Democrats on Fox News on Tuesday night, declaring members of the opposing political party “not even human.” In an interview with Sean Hannity, Eric Trump lashed out at Democrats for what he described as obstructing his father’s agenda. “I’ve never seen hatred like this. To me, they’re not even people. It’s so, so sad. Morality’s just gone, morals have flown out the window, and we deserve so much better than this as a country,” he said. “You see the Democratic Party, they’re imploding. They’re imploding. They became obstructionists because they have no message of their own,” he said. He went on to label the head of the Democratic National Committee a “total whack job,” without specifically mentioning Chairman Tom Perez by name. His comments echoed remarks made by his father on Twitter a day earlier. On Monday, President Trump slammed Democrats for “taking forever to approve my people.” “They are nothing but obstructionists,” he wrote.

*LBN-INVESTIGATES: We may have less time to spend with friends as we get older, but that doesn’t mean that close companionship becomes any less important to our well-being. That’s because our social circle has a greater impact on our health and well-being than family does, a new study finds. Researchers at Michigan State University conducted two separate, yet related studies, hoping to find the empirical value of friendship.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Thomas L. Friedman:
One of the many dangers posed to our society by having a president who’s a serial liar — and who doesn’t behave like an adult, let alone a president — is that we more easily ignore him even if he happens to say something true. Yes, some things are true even if Donald Trump
believes them. I explored one of them in China last week — Trump’s charge that China is playing unfair on trade. My visit to Beijing left me with two very strong responses. The first is that we underestimate China — and attribute all of its surge in growth to unfair trade practices — at our peril. The country has been fast and smart at adopting new technologies, particularly the mobile internet. For instance, China has moved so fast into a cashless society, where everyone pays for everything with a mobile phone, that Chinese newspapers report beggars in major cities have started to place a printout of a QR code in their begging bowls so any passer-by can scan it and use mobile payment apps like Alibaba’s Alipay or Tencent’s WeChat Wallet to contribute to the beggar’s mobile payment account. Chinese men and women friends tell me they don’t carry purses or wallets anymore, only a mobile phone, which they use for everything — including for buying vegetables from street vendors.
