LBN- Special Report- Wednesday

Ayatollah: Iran Will ‘React’ to Nuclear Deal Violations:

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, warned the U.S. on Wednesday that if it approved new sanctions against the country, it would violate the nuclear agreement and provoke a response. Last week, the House of Representatives passed the Iran Sanctions Act, which will expire at the end of the year if it is not re-authorized for another 10 years. Any new sanctions would be a violation of the nuclear agreement, Khamenei said. “The current U.S. government has breached the nuclear deal in many occasions,” Khamenei said. “The latest is extension of sanctions for 10 years, that if it happens, would surely be against [the nuclear agreement], and the Islamic Republic would definitely react to it.” President Obama has vowed to veto the legislation if it ever gets to his desk.

Report: Nikki Haley Signs On for UN Ambassador:

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to be his U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, NBC News confirmed Wednesday morning. Although Haley has little diplomatic or foreign-policy experience, a Post and Courier report notes that Trump is probably relying on her communication and problem-solving skills to be the U.S. representative to the 193-member body. Haley, who would succeed Samantha Power, will need approval from the U.S. Senate. Haley, the daughter of Indian immigrants, was critical of Trump’s proposed Muslim ban during his campaign, and may be seen as a candidate to balance him out during his term.

Donald Trump Drops Threat of New Hillary Clinton Investigation:

President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Tuesday that he had no intention of pressing for an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server or the financial operations of her family’s foundation, dropping the “lock her up” pledge that became a rallying cry for his campaign for the White House. Mr. Trump, who branded his rival “Crooked Hillary” and said she would go to jail if he were president, said in an interview with reporters and editors at The New York Times that he was no longer interested in pursuing Mrs. Clinton, in part because he wanted to heal the wounds of a divisive campaign. “I don’t want to hurt the Clintons, I really don’t,” Mr. Trump said during the interview. “She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways, and I am not looking to hurt them at all. The campaign was vicious.”

LBN-INVESTIGATES: The Arctic Ocean may seem remote and forbidding, but to birds, whales and other animals, it’s a top-notch dining destination. “It’s a great place to get food in the summertime, so animals are flying or swimming thousands of miles to get there,” said Kevin R. Arrigo, a biological oceanographer at Stanford University. But the menu is changing. Confirming earlier research, scientists reported Wednesday that global warming is altering the ecology of the Arctic Ocean on a huge scale. The annual production of algae, the base of the food web, increased an estimated 47 percent between 1997 and 2015, and the ocean is greening up much earlier each year. These changes are likely to have a profound impact for animals further up the food chain, such as birds, seals, polar bears and whales. But scientists still don’t know enough about the biology of the Arctic Ocean to predict what the ecosystem will look like in decades to come. While global warming has affected the whole planet in recent decades, nowhere has been hit harder than the Arctic. This month, temperatures in the high Arctic have been as much as 36 degrees above average, according to records kept by the Danish Meteorological Institute.

Neo-Nazi Thomas Mair Guilty of Murdering British MP Jo Cox:

Thomas Mair, an English white supremacist has been found guilty of murdering British politician Jo Cox during this year’s highly charged Brexit campaign. Mair shot and stabbed Cox on June 16, a week before the referendum on remaining within the European Union. He shouted “Britain first,” “this is for Britain,” and “keep Britain independent” while he killed Cox, a 41-year-old mother of two. The unemployed 53-year-old had a stash of neo-Nazi material, pamphlets on white supremacy, and evidence of an obsession with apartheid-era South Africa at his home, according to reports. Mair pleaded not guilty but offered no defense and did not speak during the trial.

Dalai Lama: ‘No Worries’ About Trump’s Win:

The Dalai Lama is not the least bit fazed about Donald Trump’s presidential win, despite the real-estate mogul’s inflammatory rhetoric about minorities. The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader said Wednesday that he thinks most of Trump’s divisive rhetoric during his campaign was just for show and he will be forced to behave more responsibly in office. “I feel during the election, the candidate has more freedom to express. Now once they [are] elected, having the responsibility, then they have to carry their cooperation, their work, according [to] reality,” he told reporters after a four-day trip to Mongolia. “So I have no worries,” he said, adding that he’d like to meet Trump after the Jan. 20 inauguration.

Trump ‘to Scrap’ NASA Climate Research:

President-elect Donald Trump plans to strip NASA’s climate-research funding, which he has described as “politically correct environmental monitoring,” a senior adviser said. Bob Walker, a Trump campaign adviser, said funding for the Earth-science division of NASA will instead go toward exploration of deep space. “We see NASA in an exploration role, in deep-space research,” Walker told The Guardian. “Earth-centric science is better placed at other agencies where it is their prime mission.” The reallocation of funds would mean the end of NASA’s world-renowned research into climate phenomena such as temperature, ice, and clouds.

LBN-MUSIC INSIDER:   ***Justin Bieber delivered no beauty, just beat to a fan on Tuesday. As seen in a video on TMZ, Bieber, 22, was being driven to a performance in Barcelona when a male fan rushed his vehicle. The rear passenger window was open, and the over-eager Belieber reached in to touch the “Sorry” singer — but the fan was the one who was sorry when the encounter was over. Bieber, who recently tattooed “Son of God” on his abs, reached out and slugged the fan in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose and a whole lot of regret.

LBN-BUSINESS INSIDER:   ***The company led by the American billionaire Koch brothers, along with dozens of banks and fund managers, kept billions of dollars in profit from Bernard L. Madoff’s Ponzi scheme in accounts offshore. As it turns out, that was a good decision.Koch Industries and others who invested in the Madoff fund from offshore accounts won a key ruling in federal bankruptcy court on Monday, when the judge said certain funds held abroad — estimated at about $2 billion — could not be made available to victims of the Madoff scheme. The ruling highlights the tug-of-war that has been raging between those who lost money when the scheme fell apart eight years ago and those who walked away before the fraud came to light, having recouped their original investments and then some.

LBN-SPOTLIGHT: “Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.” – Carl Jung —–

LBN-COMMENTARY by Thomas L. Friedman: Well, that was interesting … Donald Trump came to lunch at The New York Times. You can find all the highlights on the news pages, but since I had the opportunity to be included, let me offer a few impressions of my first close encounter with Trump since he declared for the presidency. The most important was that on several key issues — like climate change and torture — where he adopted extreme positions during his campaign to galvanize his base, he went out of his way to make clear he was rethinking them. How far? I don’t know. But stay tuned, especially on climate. There are many decisions that President-elect Trump can and will make during the next four years. Many of them could be reversible by his successor. But there is one decision he can make that could have truly irreversible implications, and that is to abandon America’s commitment to phasing out coal, phasing in more clean energy systems and leading the world to curb CO2 emissions before they reach a level that produces a cycle of wildly unpredictable climate disruptions. When asked where he stood on that climate change issue — which in the past he dismissed as a hoax — and last December’s U.S.-led Paris emissions-reduction accord, the president-elect did not hesitate for a second: “I’m looking at it very closely. … I have an open mind to it. We’re going to look very carefully. … You can make lots of cases for different views. … I will tell you this: Clean air is vitally important. Clean water, crystal-clean water is vitally important.”

LBN-COMMENTARY by Michael Levine (Media expert and author — : Early Hoover vacuum cleaners were hard to sell because potential customers refused to believe (and were even insulted by the suggestion) that they could have that much dirt in their carpets.

LBN-COMMENTARY by Fred Specktor (Hollywood agent): It seems odd to me that you were able to find out voting records.  I am sure the cast of HAMILTON will not be happy knowing you are searching their voting records.  Signs of big brother watching you is what it seems to me.

LBN-OVERHEARD:   ***Kanye West has been committed to a psych ward — but the rap star still wants his own security guards! In the latest bizarre twist to the rapper’s mental breakdown, a full team of hired muscle showed up at the UCLA Medical Center where their boss was locked away.   ***Robert De Niro appeared to soften his tone toward President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday when he was asked what message he would share with the soon-to-be 45th US president. “I would only say that we’re all hoping, waiting and hoping, that he will lead the country in a way that’ll benefit everyone and benefit our neighbors around the world,” De Niro told ITK, according to The Hill. “We’re waiting and hoping, and we’ll see.”
