*Obama’s Secret Plan to Deploy the Military on Election Day:
The Obama administration was poised to send armed federal agents to polling places, deploy the military and launch full-scale counter-propaganda measures in case hackers disrupted the vote on Election Day, according to a report. The 15-page playbook, produced in October, outlined the “enhanced measures” the government was prepared to take in the event of a “significant incident,” Time magazine reported Thursday, citing a copy of the document. “In almost all potential cases of malicious cyber activity impacting election infrastructure, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, to include their law enforcement agencies, will have primary jurisdiction to respond,” it says.
*DHS Sec. Kelly: Test Laptop Bomb ‘Destroyed the Plane’
John Kelly, the Department of Homeland Security secretary, announced on Wednesday evening that officials tested a laptop bomb on a real airplane and that “to say the least, it destroyed the plane.” Kelly was speaking at the Aspen Security Forum, noting that such bombs could be hidden in a variety of small electronic devices, including laptops. “Globally we are raising aviation security as opposed to going after one single threat,” said Kelly.
*Trump Wouldn’t Have Chosen Sessions if He Knew He’d Recuse Himself
In an interview with The New York Times, President Donald Trump said he would not have chosen Jeff Sessions to be attorney general if he knew that Sessions would recuse himself from all matters relating to the federal Russia investigations. “Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” Trump said, lamenting that Sessions’ recusal led to the naming of a special counsel to oversee the investigation. He went on to call the decision “extremely unfair,” and said Sessions “gave some bad answers” during his confirmation testimony in January when he said he did not meet with Russians before it was later revealed that he did.
*Baltimore Police Open Probe After Video Purportedly Shows Officer Planting Drugs
Police in Baltimore have opened an investigation after video released by a public defender appeared to show a police officer planting drugs at a crime scene. The minute-long video, released by the Maryland Office of the Public Defender on Wednesday
, showed an officer place a plastic bag in a yard while two other officers watched. The officer is then shown returning to the yard to pick up the bag, which contained capsules of heroin. The suspect was arrested after the officer’s find but charges were dropped after the video was released. Officials from the Baltimore Police Department said one officer in the video has been suspended, while two others were placed on administrative duty pending an investigation. The department showed other videos filmed the same day that it said raises the possibility the officer had in fact discovered drugs at the scene but had chosen to recreate the find for the camera.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Calvin Trillin: I like holding the paper book in my hand, but I also read books sometimes on an electronic device. I find the electronic device particularly convenient for travel. You can keep it loaded up and be confident that you’re not going to end up on a long plane ride with nothing to read. Before electronic readers, I spent 15 years traveling every three weeks for a series of New Yorker pieces, and I sometimes found myself making a last-minute dash to the newsstand to snatch a novel off the paperback rack. In those days, I used to say that the 175-page mystery, written with a sense of place, was put on earth to lighten the load of the weary traveling man. I can’t say the same for what seems to be the current fashion — the 400-page mystery, which leaves a lot unread at touchdown.
*LBN Commentary by Alan Dershowitz: Special counselRobert Mueller was commissioned to investigate not only crime but the entire Russian “matter.” That is an ominous development that endangers the civil liberties of all Americans. Federal prosecutors generally begin by identifying specific crimes that may have been committed — in this case, violation of federal statutes. But no one has yet identified the specific statute or statutes that constrain Mueller’s investigation of the Russian matter. It is not a violation of any federal law for a campaign to have collaborated with a foreign government to help elect their candidate. Perhaps it should be, but it is not. Even if there were evidence that the Trump campaign collaborated with Russian officials toward this end — and I am not aware of any — that would be a terrible political sin, but not a crime.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Vickie Casas (Small business owner):
It is about time that our law enforcement and ICE start making illegal aliens accountable for their actions. Flooding Sanctuary Cities with these law enforcement agents is absolutely necessary. When Cities start believing they can pick and choose, which laws they want to abide by, it is inevitable that chaos will follow. Immigration must be monitored and performed in a legal process. We must keep control of our own country. Identifying who is entering our country should be mandatory and making sure when they enter they are capable of taking care of themselves and their families without government subsidies. For an American citizen to immigrate to any other country this is a requirement. Why should we as a country be expected to require less?
