*Macron Thinks He Charmed Trump into Shifting Stance on Climate Change
French President Emmanuel Macron says his glamorous Paris charm offensive on Donald Trump might have changed the U.S. president’s mind about climate change. Macron defended his outreach to Trump, saying in an interview Sunday in the Journal du dimanche newspaper “our countries are friends, so we should be too.” After a tense, white-knuckle handshake at their first meeting in May, Macron said they gained “better, intimate knowledge of each other” during Trump’s visit last week. Macron said “Trump listened to me” on their main point of contention —Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement— and, “said he would try to find a solution in the coming months.” The French leader acknowledged Trump’s visit was carefully choreographed to give Americans a “stronger image of France” after deadly Islamic extremist attacks damaged tourism.
*Elon Musk: Artificial Intelligence ‘Greatest Risk We Face as a Civilization’
Tesla CEO Elon Musk issued a dire warning about artificial intelligence, calling it “the greatest risk we face as a civilization.” Speaking at the National Governor’s Association, Musk said the government should intervene. “AI’s a rare case where we need to be proactive in regulation, instead of reactive. Because by the time we are reactive with AI regulation, it’s too late,” Musk said. “AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization, in a way that car accidents, airplane crashes, faulty drugs, or bad food were not.”
*Trump’s Approval Rating Sinks to 36 Percent

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has tanked to 36 percent as he approaches six months in office, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Up five points since April, 58 percent of Americans now say they disapprove of Trump’s performance as president, while 48 percent “disapprove strongly”—a number never reached by PresidentsBill Clinton and Barack Obama, and only once by PresidentGeorge W. Bush. The poll also found that nearly half of Americans do not trust Trump in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, while the same percentage of Americans believe the U.S.’s standing in the world has weakened since Trump became commander-in-chief.

Mr. Comey has been meeting with editors and publishers in New York in recent days, and is being represented by Keith Urbahn and Matt Latimer, partners at the literary agency Javelin. The book is expected to go to auction this coming week, and all the major publishing houses have expressed keen interest, Mr. Latimer said. The book will not be a conventional tell-all memoir, but an exploration of the principles that have guided Mr. Comey through some of the most challenging moments of his legal career. Among those are his investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server during a contentious election, and his recent entanglement with the president over the F.B.I.’s inquiry into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Paul A. Offit: Discussions about weight loss may soon take a dramatic turn. At issue will be the microbiome, a collection of bacteria that lines the intestine, nose, throat, skin, and genital tract. Although people are blissfully unaware of its existence, humans have about 10 times more bacteria lining the surface of their bodies (about 100 trillion) than they have cells in their bodies (about 10 trillion). In many ways, we live in peace with our microbiome, which helps to digest food and balance glucose levels. But the microbiome has also been associated with various problems, including asthma, allergies, eczema, and diabetes. The microbiome also helps to store fat, which can lead to obesity. Obesity isn’t a trivial problem—it affects life-expectancy, quality of life, and health-care costs. The problem is far more common than most people realize. More than 44 percent of the world’s population is obese; 300 million people are morbidly obese. In the United States, about 35 percent of the population battles obesity.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Maureen Dowd: Wicked siblings willing to do anything for power. Secret deals with sworn enemies. The shock of a dead body. A Wall. Foreign bawds, guns for hire, and snakes. Back-stabbing, betrayal and charges of treason. Little birds spying and tattling. A maniacal mad king and his court of scheming, self-absorbed princesses and princelings, swathed in the finest silk and the most brazen immorality, ruling with total disregard for the good of their people. The night in Washington is dark and full of terrors. The Game of Trump has brought a pagan lawlessness never before seen in the capital. So far in life, Donald Trump has survived and thrived on the same philosophy espoused by Littlefinger in “Game of Thrones”: “Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder.” But is the rampant deception and corruption in his gaudy, jangly realm about to engulf the Emperor of Chaos? Is this the grisly endgame for Cersei in King’s Landing and Donald in Washington? A talent to distract on Twitter, our Joffrey-like president will learn, is not the same as the ability to walk through fire.

*LBN-OVERHEARD:   ***Conservative columnist Ann Coulterflew into a fit of fury Saturday after Delta Airlines booted her from her reserved “Comfort+’’ seat — which comes with 3 additional inches of legroom — and gave it to another passenger. In a two-hour tweeting tantrum, she quoted her exchange with a flight attendant: “Why are you taking me out of the extra room seat I specifically booked?’’ she asked. Their answer, she said, was “I don’t know.’’
