LBN-WHERE THE ELITE AND UNDERDOGS MEET:

Disclosures Show 27 White House Officials Worth a Combined $2.3B:

President Trump’s top White House aides started their jobs with millions of dollars in the bank, according to recently disclosed financial records cited by the Washington Post. Twenty-seven of Trump’s top aides had a combined $2.3 billion in assets when they joined the White House, the report said. In addition to the $741 million held by Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner in real-estate holdings, economic adviser Gary Cohnalso owned a large chunk of the total, with $250 million in assets. Julie Hahn, an aide to chief strategist Steve Bannon, reported investments worth between $1.1 million and $2.5 million. Bannon held assets between $11.8 million and $53.8 million, according to the disclosures. The disclosures, filed by about 180 White House staffers and released Friday, show a White House run by the financial elite in an administration that has vowed to serve the working class. “The president has brought a lot of people into this administration, into this White House, in particular, who have been very blessed and very successful by this country and have given up a lot to come into the government by setting aside a lot of assets,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Friday about the revelations. Spicer was also included in the financial disclosures, with between $2.9 million and $6.6 million in assets.

People are fleeing New York at an alarming rate:

More people are leaving the New York region than any other major metropolitan area in the country. More than 1 million people moved out of the New York area to another part of the country since 2010, a rate of 4.4 percent — the highest negative net migration rate among the nation’s large population centers, US Census records show. The number of people leaving the region — which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island — in one year swelled from 187,034 in 2015 to 223,423 in 2016, while the number of international immigrants settling in the tri-state area dwindled from 181,551 to 160,324 over the same period, records show.

LBN-COMMENTARY by Dan Lyon: The tech industry has a problem with “bro culture.” People have been complaining about it for years. Yet nobody has done much to fix it. That may finally change, if the people in charge of Silicon Valley — venture capitalists, who control the money — start to realize that the real problem with tech bros is not just that they’re boorish jerks. It’s that they’re boorish jerks who don’t know how to run companies. Look at Uber, the ride-hailing start-up. It’s the biggest tech unicorn in the world, with a valuation of $69 billion. Not long ago Uber seemed invincible. Now it’s in free fall, and top executives have fled. The company’s woes spring entirely from its toxic bro culture, created by its chief executive, Travis Kalanick. What is bro culture? Basically, a world that favors young men at the expense of everyone else. A “bro co.” has a “bro” C.E.O., or C.E.-Bro, usually a young man who has little work experience but is good-looking, cocky and slightly amoral — a hustler. Instead of being forced by investors to surround himself with seasoned executives, he is left to make decisions on his own.
