LBN- Special Report- Sunday

*Khan Begs GOP to Stand Up to Trump:
Khizr Khan, the father of the late American war hero U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, has challenged the Republican party for its support of Donald Trump, urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan to “repudiate” the GOP nominee. In an interview with MSNBC on Friday, Khan called it a “moral imperative” for the two to stand up to Trump. “If your candidate wins and he governs the way he has campaigned, my country, this country, will have constitutional crises [like] never before,” Khan warned. Calling Trump’s possible leadership a “threat to our democracy,” Khan begged McConnell and Ryan not to be deterred by “political consequences” and to put an end to Trump’s “schoolyard bullying.” Khan, whose Muslim-American son died fighting for the U.S. in Iraq, delivered an epic speech alongside his wife at the DNC earlier this week in which he railed against Trump for his anti-Muslim rhetoric and asked the Republican candidate if he’d ever even read the U.S. Constitution. Khan’s speech was hailed as the most powerful speech at the Democratic convention, though Trump’s reaction to it was simply: “I’d like to hear his wife say something.”

*FBI, DOJ Investigating DNC Hack:
The FBI and the Justice Department are now involved in an investigation into a hacking that has penetrated the Democratic National Committee, the campaign of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Experts suggest that the Russian government was the culprit and that they could have more unreleased information. Clinton’s campaign said that there was no evidence that their “internal systems have been compromised.”

*Donald Trump Responds to Muslim Father Khizr Khan: ‘I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices’:
One of the most powerful lines in one of the DNC’s most emotional speeches came when Khizr Khan, the Muslim father of a U.S. Army captain killed in Iraq, told Donald Trump, “You have sacrificed nothing!” Now, in his first response to Khan’s address, during an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos set to air Sunday morning, Trump responded to that line by saying,“I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard.” Trump also questioned whether Khan’s wife, who stood silently at her husband’s side at the podium, was “allowed” to speak. Ghazala Khan did speak out during an interview on MSNBC on Friday night, thanking all Americans who “listened from their heart” to her husband’s speech.

*LBN-INVESTIGATES: Herbalife’s recruitment strategy was to tell prospects they could become wealthy – lavishly so – by pushing the company’s products. The FTC found that just .03 percent of Herbalife distributors (205 individuals) made more than $600,000 in 2014 and that the “over-whelming majority of Herbalife Distributors who pursue the business opportunity earn little or lose money.” The agency banned any Herbalife marketing efforts tied to achieving a lavish lifestyle.

*DARING – Man Skydives Without Parachute:
Luke Aikins fell 25,000 feet without a parachute on Saturday becoming the first in the world to skydive without one. He was going 120 mph when he landed in a net above California’s Simi Valley. “I’m here to show you that if we approach it the right way and we test it and we prove that it’s good to go, we can do things that we don’t think are possible,” Aikins said.

*LBN-INVESTIGATES: This year has seen an accelerating pattern of attacks linked to ISIS in Europe and beyond — from Turkey to Bangladesh, the United States to Indonesia. According to the group IntelCenter, which tracks acts of terrorism, there has been a significant attack directed or inspired by ISIS every 84 hours sinceJune 8 in cities outside the war zones in Iraq, Syria, Sinai in Egypt and Libya.

*LBN-BOOK NEWS:   ***Channing Tatum is so desperate to get his hands on an advance copy of James Andrew Miller’sbook “Powerhouse” that he is willing to bust out his “Magic Mike” moves for Miller’s agents at ICM. “He offered to give them all lap dances in order to get an advance copy,” an insider said. The book, out Aug. 9, is the inside story of powerful Hollywood agency CAA and exposes some of Tinseltown’s heavy hitters, including Tom Cruise’s and Barbra Streisand’sformer agent, Michael Ovitz.

*LBN-MEDIA INSIDER:   ***The reported front-runners for thehighly coveted “Live with Kelly” co-hosting gig are front-runners no more, we’re told. Insiders say that the producers and Kelly Ripa are “amused and fed up” with some of the most hotly tipped successors to Michael Strahan using the highly publicized race as a self-promotional opportunity. We’re told Rob LoweJeff Gordon and Mario Lopez have raised the hackles of ABC execs by talking themselves up in the press, and some people close to them have even — gasp! — allegedly leaked items about them being courted to take the seat next to Kelly full time.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Maureen Dowd: The president made his vote-for-Hillary-or-face-doom convention speech only 22 days after his F.B.I. director painted Hillary as reckless and untruthful. He argued that there is no choice but to support Hillary against a “self-declared savior” like Donald Trump, perhaps forgetting that Obama was once hailed as such a messiah that Oprah introduced him in 2007 as “the one,” and it became his moniker. In the end, Obama didn’t overthrow the Clinton machine. He enabled it. It turns out, who we choose is not really about our souls. It’s just politics, man.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Thomas Sowell: I have never understood why it is “greed” to want to keep the money you earned, but not greed to take somebody else’s money. If you have been voting for politicians who promise to give you goodies at someone else’s expense, then you have no right to complain when they take your money and give it to someone else, including themselves.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Fred Specktor (Agent) : Linda Deutsch is right. The nonsense you (LBN) wrote about Hillary’s tax was wrong to do and not accurate.  Your editor is clearly a Trump fan. One has to be out of their mind or racist to think he would  be good for anything except filing lawsuits or being sued. In my lifetime there has never been a worse person running for president in our country.  He is up there with the worst!

*LBN-OVERHEARD:   ***John Kerr, an editor, literary muse and confidant for a generation of Freudian scholars and the author of “A Most Dangerous Method,” the book that became the basis for a play and a movie about the famous feud between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, died on July 18 in Portland, Me. He was 66. His brother Gil said the cause was complications of lung cancer.
