*Report: Trump’s Team Held Talks on TV Startup:

Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has held talks to proceed with a television startup on the Republican presidential nominee’s behalf, the Financial Times reports. Kushner reportedly contacted Aryeh Bourkoff, of investment bank LionTree, to that end. Trump has in the past denied that he’s looking to start his own channel. He told The Washington Post just last month that he has “no interest” in a media company, despite the fact that digital-media entrepreneur and erstwhile Breitbart head Stephen Bannon is one of Trump’s top advisers and the CEO of his presidential campaign.

*LBN-INVESTIGATES: The southwest border has cracked open over the last year as illegal immigrants into the U.S. spiked some 23 percent, according to the latest Homeland Security numbers released Monday. Nearly 409,000 illegal immigrants were nabbed at the border in fiscal 2016 — up from about 331,000 a year earlier — and Homeland Security officials say the increased arrests also means an increase in the number that are sneaking by them. Worse yet, the number of illegal immigrants traveling as families, fleeing rough conditions in Central America and enticed by the promise of lax enforcement in the U.S., reached a record high of 77,674. Unaccompanied minors — those children traveling without their parents — also rose to nearly 60,000, though that was still shy of the record set in 2014.

*Report: Kurdish Ground Forces Retake 7 Villages Near Mosul:

Hours after Iraqi forces began their long-awaiting move toward the ISIS stronghold of Mosul, opening an their offensive east of Iraq’s second-largest city, Turkish state media said early Monday that Kurdish ground forces had already taken control of seven other villages on the city’s outskirts. The showdown with the jihadis could effectively end the terror group’s occupation of land in Iraq, after it was already forced out of Fallujah, Ramadi, and Tikrit. U.S. warplanes provided aerial support as an anti-ISIS coalition bombed targets in Mosul overnight. More than 1 million Iraqis are living in the city.

*Obama, Holder to Lead Redistricting Campaign:

Former Attorney General Eric Holder and Barack Obama will work to overhaul America’s system of legislative redistricting after the latter steps down as president. Holder will chair a newly incorporated group, said to be called the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. Obama has said the organization will be his main focus when he leaves the White House. The aim of the organization, Politico reports, is to take on the pointed gerrymandering that Democrats believe is responsible for uneven control of statehouses and the U.S. House of Representatives. “American voters deserve fair maps that represent our diverse communities—and we need a coordinated strategy to make that happen,” Holder said. “This unprecedented new effort will ensure Democrats have a seat at the table to create fairer maps after 2020.” Among other initiatives, the group will evidently cover campaign strategy, coordinate ballot initiatives, organize legal challenges to various state redistricting maps, and direct fundraising.

*Republican Party HQ in NC Firebombed:

Police in the town of Hillsborough are investigating after a North Carolina county GOP headquarters was firebombed over the weekend. Campaign signs, supplies, and furniture were destroyed after somebody threw a bottle of flammable liquid threw a window, leaving graffiti on the side of an adjacent building that read, “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else.” Images posted on Twitter by the local Republican Party showed the office in Orange County blackened and charred. Officials said the damage wasn’t noticed until Sunday, when a local business owner notified authorities. Gov. Pat McCrory has called the attack “an attack on our democracy.” No one was injured. Dallas Woodhouse, the executive director of the state Republican Party, was quoted by local media saying the “office itself is a total loss.” “The only thing important to us is that nobody was killed, and they very well could have been,” he said. Republican nominee Donald Trump, whose campaign signs were burned in the attack, blamed supporters of Hillary Clinton for the incident. In a tweet, he said pinned the firebombing on “animals representing Hillary Clinton and Dems in North Carolina.” Clinton, for her part, lamented the attack as “horrific and unacceptable.”

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Vickie Casas: I have a message for Nicki Minja commenting on what needs a man needs to seek power. When criticizing others-Take a look in the mirror to know that you would never be picked by a man to get him to a place of power. The reason why is you forgot one thing, it takes class and that you certainly lack.  Trump picked a woman with true beauty inside and out. A woman who actually puts raising her child first, a rarity this day and age and most of all a woman who loves her husband unconditionally. Trump picked well!

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Paul Krugman: I’m a baby boomer, which means that I’m old enough to remember conservatives yelling “America — love it or leave it!” at people on the left who criticized racism and inequality. But that was a long time ago. These days, disdain for America — the America that actually exists, not an imaginary “real America” in which minorities and women know their place — is concentrated on the right. To be sure, progressives still see a lot wrong with the state of our society, and seek change. But they also celebrate the progress we have made, and for the most part the change they seek is incremental: It involves building on existing institutions, not burning everything down and starting over.
