The White House issued a statement through National Security Advisor Jim Jones, saying CBS’ report is “absolutely false.” The Associated Press, meanwhile, is saying that Obama plans to add tens of thousands of new troops, but not quite the 40,000 McChrystal wanted.

HASAN’S RADICAL IMAM: AS AUTHORITIES DIG INTO FORT HOOD GUNMAN NIDAL MALIK HASAN’S PAST, ONE NAME KEEPS COMING UP: Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical imam Hasan worshipped under in 2001, who first fell under FBI scrutiny as a “spiritual adviser” to two 9/11 attackersand who was born in America. The Times of London reports that al-Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen, was born in New Mexico to Yemeni parents. He served as an imam in Denver and San Diego before landing in the Falls Church, Virginia, mosque that Hasan and the 9/11 hijackers attended. Al-Awlaki praised Hasan as “a hero” in his blog after the Fort Hood shootings, calling him “a man of conscience who could not bear the contradiction of being a Muslim and fighting against his own people.” Al-Awlaki has raised eyebrows outside of the U.S., too: Yemen held him for more than a year as part of a “secret investigation” in 2006, and British authorities banned him from addressing, by video, an East London mosque this year. Authorities intercepted communications between the Army major charged in the Fort Hood killings and a radical cleric but took no action.

LBN-COMMENTARY By BUZZ ALDRIN (Astronaut, Apollo 11 mission; Best-selling author of “Magnificent Desolation”):  NASA’s recent launch of the Ares 1-X was billed as the prototype of a crew launch vehicle, a fancy term for a manned space booster. LBN-COMMENTARY By OLDHAM ANDREW LOOG:The music business is in a right old state. The two biggest selling  recording acts are for the most part dead; the Beatles and Michael Jackson. Success on the road is so splintered that the result is that pop and rock has had to give away the entertainment crown to sports and war. What has their been since U2 , Dave Mathews and Phish ?  Coldplay ?  What a joke…. they are at best undergraduate pop rock, nearer Duran Duran than the Stones or the Who. The cost of going to a concert is about the same as going on holiday was not so long ago.  And if you do not think that even the smiles are rehearsed  when you see your big faves  at your local stadium you have had too much Chardonay. It’s the nature of the beast.  The other beast , what is left of the record companies frontline with quarterly muzak and keep their doors open by not paying, or not paying properly, the old smaller acts who had one moment but are now just the remaining bricks and cement in a buiding dying of cancer. The road is King… it always has been… long live the King , and the songs that feed it.

LBN-COMMENTARY By BARRY FARBER: In a race among these three, which do you suppose will arrive at rock bottom first: the Democratic Party, the Norwegian Nobel Committee or the United Nations?  Well, the Norwegian Nobel Committee can’t do anything self-destructive for another year, so I guess it’s between the Democrats and the U.N. Most of you would probably vote for the Democrats; what with “Cap-and-Trade,” “Cash-for-Clunkers,” stumbling along behind their leader to embrace the most utterly disastrous economic system ever practiced, etc. Before you vote, however, please hear and heed my little campaign speech for the United Nations.

LBN-COMMENTARY By THOMAS SOWELL: If politicians stopped meddling with things they don’t understand, there would be a more drastic reduction in the size of government than anyone in either party advocates.
