GOP LEADERS RALLY HUNDREDS IN PROTEST OF HEALTH CARE BILL AT CAPITOL: Foes of the House Democrats’ health care bill rallied outside the Capitol Saturday afternoon, hours before what many of them anticipated will be a setback for their position — approval of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s bill. “It may pass out of the House tonight. We do realize that,” Jenny Beth Martin, event organizer for the Tea Party Patriots, said. “But there is the Senate still. And we are going to leave no stone unturned and fight the government taking over our health care.”

SOCIAL NETWORKS AND KIDS: HOW YOUNG IS TOO YOUNG?: Status updates, photo tagging and FarmVille aren’t just for adults or even teenagers anymore .Researchers say a growing number of children are flouting age requirements on sites such as Facebook and MySpace, or using social-networking sites designed just for them. Facebook and MySpace require users to be at least 13. But they have no practical way to verify ages, and many young users pretend to be older when signing up. Some scientists worry that pre-adolescent use of the sites, which some therapists have linked to Internet addiction among adults, could be damaging to children’s relationships and brains. But many other experts say there’s not any solid research to back that up and that most children seem to use social-media sites in moderation, and in positive ways.

CHINA PROMISES BILLIONS IN AID, LOANS TO AFRICA: PLEDGES, PART OF CHINA’S GROWING PUSH IN CONTINENT, WATCHED WARILY BY WEST: China’s premier on Sunday pledged $10 billion in concessional loans to African nations over the next three years and said Beijing would cancel the government debts of some of the poorest of those countries, as the Asian powerhouse looked to deflect criticism that its investments in the continent were motivated purely by greed. At a two-day China-Africa summit that began on Sunday, Wen Jiabao also said China would build 100 new clean energy projects for Africa over the same period as part of an effort to help the continent deal with climate change issues.

They’re here, but by all accounts, they shouldn’t be.

LBN-COMMENTARY By DR. JON PERLMAN (Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, Associate Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery – Geffen UCLA School of Medicine): Are you in favor of reinstating the military draft? Why?. Am I crazy or does anyone else agree that our beloved US of A’s efforts to provide stability and sanity around the world in recent decades has floundered.  It seems that we need a Colin Powell to look into whether we are capable of taking on the job effectively once given adequate troop availability.  If we can’t do it with the military numbers that we now have, we need to reach a decision as a nation to either step down our efforts and idealism, or increase our troop numbers so the military is empowered to get the job done.  If we choose the latter course, a volunteer army should be the priority and a draft used only as a last resort. Just my humble opinion.

LBN-MUSIC INSIDER:   *** A federal judge has temporarily blocked two music-sharing Web sites from selling songs by The Beatles and other artists for 25 cents apiece. U.S. District Judge John F. Walter on Thursday blocked the sites BlueBeat.com and Basebeat.com and owner Hank Risan from selling copyrighted songs by the Beatles and others. Music company EMI Group filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday seeking an injunction against the sites, claiming they were engaging in music piracy.   *** The inquiry by the Competition Commission in the U.K. into the merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster has been extended by eight weeks, and will now report by Jan. 19. It follows a provisional CC ruling on Oct. 8 that the merger will hinder competition in the market for live music ticket retailing, which could result in higher prices.
